What's Changed?
Why are people who accidentally knock on the door to the wrong house, open the wrong car, door, or drive up the wrong driveway getting shot? It didn't used to be like this.
What's changed?
I spent 30+ years walking up without prior notice to total strangers doors to conduct witness interviews and serve court papers. I did so in every kind of neighborhood imaginable. From rural to inner city. From high crime areas to gated communities. And, I had my share of going to the wrong addresses too.
And no one ever shot at me for doing so.
I have my own theories as to what's happening that people are getting shot from accidentally going to the wrong place.
I think people have been driven to a state of fear of "others" by politicians looking to raise funds and get elected by a more extremist "base" voter. I think the Russians have, under Putin, played a role in increasing our own level of discord. And I think social media has driven a me first sense of entitlement that's manifesting itself in people feeling like instead of asking first what's happening, they feel the right to shoot first and ask questions later.
What do you think? Let me know.
